Sky Is Falling In South Florida

I can finally say it out loud.
Real Estate has stopped selling in South Florida.
I was at my fish monger yesterday, getting my dinner, and we got to chatting, and he said that his Son in Law is no longer in business as a Mortg Broker. He also said, he's no longer getting 8 postcards from Realtors in the mail. I told him my phones have stopped ringing. The newspaper Real Estate advertising section is almost nil. Realtors that do call, or all complaining that their listings are not moving.
So, what's going on?
For one, according to CNN, there's a shortage of steel, shortage of lumber, shortage of fuel, 2 airlines have gone into Bankruptcy. Two major hurricanes hit 4 states, severely, putting many out of work, out of homes, no flood or wind insurance. And a lame president that just smirks. (Remember the look on his face when he was sitting in the kindergarten class, and one of his aids whispered about the 9/11 tragedy in his ear? Remember he just sat there????)
So what's going to happen? Well, figure prices MAY go down slightly, I've noticed more and more homes up for sale in the last week, on my route to C's house. But I think homes will sit stagnant. Realtors will have to find another career, and make Real Estate a side job, I think people will be relocating. Perhaps selling their Hummers, or their beach front condo's.
Sad state of affairs here in South Florida.

1 Comments:
The market here is really hot. My broker has become a friend now. She says that 90% of the properties are gone within a week--more than half before they actually hit the MLS system.
When we bought our house in June, we were in the top 10% of sales prices for our neighbourhood, four months later we aren't even in the top 1/3.
